Top 3 Misconceptions About Messenger Marketing & Chatbots

There are a few things we think you should know about growing your business… and they all revolve around chatbots 🤔

Chatbots are a GREAT tool to communicate directly with your audience, but many businesses aren’t utilizing chatbots like they should. These biz owners seem to think that:

❌ Chatbots are spam

❌ Chatbots are hard to set up

❌ Chatbots aren’t needed

But, we’re here to set the record straight.

We’ve put together this myth-busting post, so you can break away from that pack and start growing your following (and profits) fast!

Myth #1: Chatbots Are Spam

The first, and probably biggest, misconception about Messenger Marketing and chatbots is that chatbots are spam. You see, Facebook Messenger used to be a channel just to talk to your friends and your family, like the newsfeed used to be before it got taken over by all kinds of content and advertising. Facebook Messenger is also a much more intimate form of communication than we’re used to. It’s direct, it’s one-on-one and it’s delivered straight to your device.

Here’s the thing, contrary to popular belief, chatbots do not allow marketers to spam users and send messages out to whoever they want to. Just like with email marketing and, arguably, more securely, permission must be granted. Once a user consents to communications, they become, what we refer to as, a Messenger bot subscriber.

How do you get users to actually opt in? First, you’ll want to sign up for a Messenger bot platform, like MSGHero, and go ahead and create a chatbot for your page. The second thing you’ll want to do is set up different entry points for users to actually be able to opt into your Messenger bot. In addition to Facebook comments, you can also add buttons to your website, add customer chat widgets and so much more.

What does an opt in do anyway? The big benefit to having an opt in and having that barrier is that you’re actually receiving an engaged lead versus just somebody passing by who doesn’t really want your content that badly. The great thing about capturing these leads via Messenger is that you’ll be able to now inbox them through Messenger, seeing open rates as high as 80 to 90% which is well above email marketing standards.

With that said, our favorite thing to do here at MSGHero is actually combine the efforts of Messenger marketing with the more traditional email marketing methods to really diversify how we reach our audience.

Myth #2: Chatbots Are Hard to Set Up

Misconception number two, I’m not tech savvy and chatbots seem really hard to set up. Most people think that chatbots require extensive coding and placing of scripts. In reality, it’s simply a matter of connecting your Facebook account to MSGHero, typing your message and clicking save. All the coding is done for you.

Myth #3: Chatbots Aren’t Needed to Succeed

The last misconception we’re going to talk about today, I don’t need a chatbot for my business. I get it, I get it. As a business owner, you have a lot on your plate. Adding yet another task onto your agenda can seem a bit daunting. Considering the fact that chatbots are super easy to install, as we just discussed, you really don’t have a lot to lose. In fact, you’ve really only got to gain. No business is too big or too small for a chatbot. Here’s some of the key benefits that you won’t want to miss out on.

First, don’t you want to keep the lights on in your business even while you’re sleeping? The great thing about chatbots is that you’re able to automate responses and help serve your customers even when you’re not in the office or you’re not available to monitor your Messenger inbox.

Speaking of customers, you’ll also be able to provide them with a personalized white glove style experience when they chat with you on Messenger. Contrary to popular belief, chatbots are not like boring robots that spew out the same answer to every single person. You can really program them to deliver very unique, custom experiences depending on your customers unique needs.

Also, using a Messenger marketing bot, you’re able to contact Messenger subscribers when you need to, not just when they come around. It’s great to be able to reach out to the people on your list when you have something going on that they need to know about versus just passively waiting for them to send you a message.

That’s it. Those are the three biggest misconceptions about Messenger marketing and chatbots. Hope you enjoyed the video. Don’t forget to stop by and give us a visit at MSGHero is the world’s premier Messenger marketing platform – and we can’t wait to welcome you inside.
